harvestI love to think about food, to grow food, to share food, to cook food, to serve food, to eat food. Fresh, simple food. Complex, theatrical food. Austere food and decadent food. 

Whenever possible, I try to feed myself from a small patch of earth in Otsego County. When that doesn’t work out, I do my foraging at Fairway on the Upper West Side of NYC.

I spend a lot of time reading cookbooks but seldom follow recipes.

I will happily spend hours peeling individual chickpeas (for an extra-creamy hummus), or making a neat dice of a pile of produce, but I can’t be bothered with a dessert that requires me to separate eggs.

I get very cranky when I’m feeling undernourished. And not just in terms of what I have or haven’t put in my belly.
